AUSTRALIAN RECALL ROUND-UP13–19 January 2014.
8 product recalls were published during this week. Review the summaries below, then follow the official source before taking action.
Bicycles and scooters (push)The master piston seal is unable to prevent the ingestion of air into the system under certain field conditions, which reduces the ability of the system to generate braking pressure, and can lead to brake failure. In addition, a smaller number of the units were determined to have been manufactured with a significant void inside the molded hood component of the brake lever. When squeezing the brake lever with very high force, the fluid bursts the thin barrier between the fluid reservoir and the void. This essentially expands the fluid reservoir volume, resulting in an immediate loss in braking power.
Home electrical appliancesMoisture may enter the electronics or the power cable and may cause a short circuit or a high leakage current.
General product safetyWhen the vehicle is driven, the wiring harness may come in contact with the bottom of the radiator and wear through the outer protective sleeve.
Tools and machineryThe circular flash tube has three electrodes that are live parts. A consumer may come into contact with live parts, especially when moving the lightning kit or replacing a light globe. In addition, instructions provided did not provide effective safety advice.
Cots (permanent)The cot does not comply with the mandatory Australian standard, AS/NZS 2172:2003 Cots for household use—safety requirements. The cot is missing the required label on the mattress base, which notifies consumers of the recommended mattress size, the correct use of the adjustable base, and the supplier's details.
General product safetyThe recall is due to listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Personal care productsThe product contains Enterobacter gergoviae bacteria.
Fire extinguishers and safety equipmentThe bound loop prusiks may not conform to Sterling Rope quality standards and may break at a lower load than the published values.
