Wilhelm Maass GmbH - Essen plant manufactured ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1 low temperature carbon steel flanges within Heats 317, 966 and 923. The flanges are used to connect tubular piping. Identifying features description Each affected flange will have the following identifying numbers: "A340", "LF2", "317,966 or 923", "MAASS mark"
Why it was recalled
In five (5) instances of product testing, the Flange failed a low temperature fracture toughness test against the requirements of the ASTM A350 standard.
Hazard
If a brittle fracture occurs due to an external stress whilst in use, fluid leakage may occur. It is noted, however, that any specific hazard is application dependent.
