AUSTRALIAN PRODUCT RECALL

Subaru MY2010–2014 Liberty & Outback - extended recall

Published 7 April 2017

Product

This recall was extended 12 November 2017, 18 April 2018 and 01 April 2019. MY2010–2014 Liberty & Outback vehicles equipped with a Takata front passenger airbag. Number of affected vehicles: 19 479 Liberty vehicles 23 210 Outback vehicles

Why it was recalled

Airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.

Hazard

In the event that a defective airbag inflator ruptures, metal fragments may propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.
