Mechanical Disc Brake Callipers for Road Bicycle

Shimano has identified a potential performance issue with mechanical disc brake callipers for road bikes sold after February 2012. No injuries or incidents have been reported to date. However, in order to minimise any potential safety hazard, Shimano is recalling the affected brake callipers and are replacing them with improved callipers. Identifying features description The affected models are: BR-CX75, BR-R515 & BR-R315. A limited number of these units have been sold as an aftermarket item. The majority of units were sold as part of complete bicycles. In Australia, the affected bicycle models are: Specialized Roubaix SL4, BMC GF02, BH RX Team Cyclocross 105 and Cannondale Road Tandem 1.
Why it was recalled
The steel balls inside the cam mechanism of the disc brake calliper can fall out of place, resulting in a loss of braking power.
Hazard
Loss of braking performance in the worst case scenario may lead to loss of control or an accident.
