This recall is an expansion of the recall PRA2018/17147 Lexus SC 430 (UZZ40) Model Year 2001-2010 566 affected vehicles Passenger side front airbag inflators These vehicles have already had their original Takata passenger airbag inflator replaced with a recently manufactured Takata inflator ('like for like replacement'). This inflator must now be replaced with a non-Takata alternative.
Why it was recalled
Takata airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of heat and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.
Hazard
In the event of an airbag inflator rupture, metal fragments could propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.
