This recall has been extended on 29 October 2019 to attach updated VIN list Honda Accord Euro Model Years 2003-2014 Honda City Model Year 2009-2012 Honda Civic Model Years 2001-2005 Honda CR-V Model Years 2002-2011 Honda Jazz Model Years 2003-2007, 2009-2013 Honda Insight Model Year 2011 Front passenger side airbag inflators 45 819 affected vehicles These vehicles have already had their original Takata passenger airbag inflator replaced with a recently manufactured Takata inflator ('like for like replacement'). This inflator will now be replaced with a non-Takata alternative.
Why it was recalled
Airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.
Hazard
In the event that a defective airbag inflator ruptures, metal fragments may propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.
