Takata passenger 'beta' inflators fitted as replacement parts to: D22 Navara - 2002 to 2008 Production Year 3 467 vehicles affected J31 Maxima - 2003 to 2008 Production Year 5 660 vehicles affected N16 Pulsar - 2001 to 2005 Production Year 20 720 vehicles affected T30 X-Trail - 2001 to 2007 Production Year 38 352 vehicles affected Y61 Patrol - 2001 to 2008 Production Year 18 304 vehicles affected This recall is for the D22 Navara, J31 Maxima, N16 Pulsar, T30 X-Trail, & Y61 Patrol that have already had their Takata passenger airbag inflator replaced with Takata airbag inflators of the same type ('like for like' replacement) under the following PRA numbers – PRA2013/13542, PRA2014/14182, PRA2015/14751, PRA2015/14752, & PRA2015/14821.
Why it was recalled
Takata airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of heat and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.
Hazard
In the event of an airbag inflator rupture, metal fragments could propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.
