Civic MY 2001

Published 23 January 2017

Product

Honda Civic MY 2001 Passenger's airbag inflator - beta (replacement of beta inflator installed as part of campaign 5SD, which was to replace an alpha inflator) 592 vehicles

Why it was recalled

Airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in an collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.

Hazard

In the event that a defective airbag inflator ruptures, metal fragments may propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.
