AUSTRALIAN PRODUCT RECALL

Toyota Motor Corporation — Toyota Corolla MZEA12

Published 21 December 2018

Product

Toyota Corolla Hatch MZEA12 Year Model 2018 Excludes Hybrid Model. 2 640 vehicles affected.

Why it was recalled

The vehicles are equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) assembly that uses a torque converter to transfer engine power from the engine to the transmission. There is a possibility that, due to an error in the manufacturing process, some of the torque converters may have been inadequately assembled.

Hazard

If the vehicle is frequently operated in higher load conditions, such as under rapid acceleration from a low speed, the torque converter may fail and potentially cause a loss of motive power. Loss of motive power while driving could increase the risk of an accident and injury to vehicle occupants or other road users. In the event of a serious accident this may result in death.
